The ruins of a Baroque manor house from 1734, the former seat of the Kossak family, with a cultural centre in its grounds.
The Kossak Manor (Dwór Kossaków) in Górki Wielkie is the former seat of the Kossak family, today the home of the “Dwór Kossaków” Centre for Culture and Art. The Baroque manor house, built in 1734 on the initiative of Hieronim Marklowski, survives as ruins, but its surroundings still serve culture: painting workshops, theatre performances and concerts are held here.
In 1922 the estate was bought by Tadeusz Kossak, of the family of well-known painters, who settled here with his family. His daughter, the writer Zofia Kossak-Szczucka, also lived here and wove local motifs into her works. The main building burned down in the last days of the war, in May 1945. The manor's gardener's cottage, the farm buildings and the avenue of limes and oaks survived.
Since 2010 the centre has been run by a foundation, and in the surviving gardener's cottage the Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska Museum, a branch of the Museum of Cieszyn Silesia, has operated since 1970. Right next to it stands the Franciscan monastery.
