A cast-iron group of two lions from 1830 after Johann Gottfried Schadow, in front of the Municipal Palm House in Gliwice.
The Reclining Lions (Lwy leżące) are a cast-iron sculptural group set up in Fryderyk Chopin Park in Gliwice, in front of the Municipal Palm House. They show two lions with raised heads. The author is Johann Gottfried Schadow, and the sculptures were cast in 1830.
The lions were cast at the Royal Iron Foundry in Gliwice (the twin sculptures described below also come from this foundry). The German name of the sculptures was Liegende Löwen.
Similar sculptures, cast from the same mould, formerly stood in the Hutniczy Cemetery. The original mould has survived to this day at the Gliwice Technical Equipment Works.
