Manor House in Czuchów

3 Maja 85, Czerwionka-Leszczyny
About Manor House in Czuchów

A Classicist manor house from the late 18th century in Czuchów, with the remains of a landscape park and a chapel.

The manor house in Czuchów, also called the castle, is a Classicist brick building from the end of the 18th century, located on 3 Maja Street in Czerwionka-Leszczyny. Rebuilt many times, it no longer has clear stylistic features today, but it is surrounded by a landscape park with a chapel.

Owners and the collection

In the second half of the 18th century the estate belonged to the von Kalinowski family, and in 1793 to Jan Kalinowski and his wife Marianna née Dressler. At the beginning of the 19th century the castle held a sizeable collection of works of art belonging to the Barons von Welczek. In 1846 Baron Karol von Welczek published in Berlin a catalogue of the collection of paintings, which included lithographs by the French artist Horace Vernet.

After 1945

After the Second World War workers of the local state farm moved into the rooms, which blurred the former architectural form and largely ruined the building. Until 2001 it belonged to the Agricultural Property Agency of the State Treasury, and today it is owned by the municipality.

Park and surroundings

Remains of an English-style park have survived around the manor house. In it stands the castle chapel, probably built by the Welczek barons in the first half of the 19th century. In the neighbourhood, about four hundred metres away, is the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Czuchów.
