About Manor House in Zabrze

A brick manor house in Rokitnica from the second half of the 19th century with a three-storey tower, entered in the heritage register in 2016.

The manor house at Żniwiarzy 2 in Rokitnica, Zabrze, is a brick building from the second half of the 19th century, entered in the heritage register in 2016. Wall paintings have survived in it fairly well, although the condition of the structure, especially the ceilings and roof truss, is poor.

History

The founder of the farmstead is not known. It may have been Adolph Tieschowitz von Tieschowa, starost of Bytom, and the building originally belonged to his family. In 1858 part of the Miechowice-Rokitnica estate passed into the hands of the Tiele-Winckler family. After the Second World War a state farm operated in the farmstead. In 2012 a fire damaged part of the roof and attic, and from 2017 a new private owner renovated the building.

Appearance

The manor house is single-storey, with a cellar and a usable attic, built on a rectangular plan, under a gable roof. The front façade has nine bays, and the main entrance is at the base of a three-storey tower in the middle. The façades are modest, with cornices, and the windows of the tower's upper storey are closed with semicircular heads. On the garden side a two-bay projection protrudes.

Practical information

  • The building is private property, so it is easiest to view it from the outside.
