A sculpture by Marian Wnuk from 1965 in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, showing two miners with lamps.
“Miners” (Górnicy) is an outdoor sculpture in the Silesian Park in Chorzów, by Marian Wnuk (1906-1967). It shows two miners in helmets, carrying miners' lamps. The work was made in 1964 and unveiled in 1965.
The figure is about three metres high and stands on a red sandstone plinth. It was made of artificial stone with an addition of iron and metal filings. The sculpture is classed as Socialist Realism. It was made when the Voivodeship Park of Culture and Recreation, as today's park was then called, was being laid out. In 2011 it was entered in the register of movable monuments. After restoration in 2021 it was moved from the vicinity of the Silesian Stadium to near the “Elka” cable car station.
The monument stands within the Silesian Park, less than a kilometre from the Silesian Zoological Garden, so it is easy to combine with a walk around the park.
