Katowice
About Monument to Leszek Giec in Katowice

A bust on a plinth by Zygmunt Brachmański, commemorating the cardiologist Leszek Giec, in front of the hospital in Katowice-Ochojec.

The bust of Professor Leszek Giec stands in the Piotrowice-Ochojec district of Katowice, in front of the Upper Silesian Medical Centre building on Ziołowa Street. It commemorates the cardiologist who founded and headed the Silesian Centre for Heart Diseases in Ochojec.

What the monument shows

The monument takes the form of a bust set on a plinth. Its author is Zygmunt Brachmański. It was first unveiled in 2009 in the presence of the university and city authorities, and again, in a ceremonial setting, on 18 May 2010.

Whom it commemorates

Leszek Giec was a cardiologist, and the centre he created now operates within the hospital complex in Ochojec. The monument therefore stands in a place linked with his entire professional achievement, not on a random street.

Practical information

  • Location: Katowice, Piotrowice-Ochojec, Ziołowa 45/47, in front of the Upper Silesian Medical Centre building.
