Monument to Jerzy Jan Buzek, a metallurgist and manager of the ironworks, sculpted by Bogumił Burzyński in 2013.
The monument in Węgierska Górka commemorates Jerzy Jan Buzek (1874-1939), a metallurgist and professor who ran the local ironworks. It was unveiled on 2 August 2013 in a square by the former ironworks.
The sculpture is by the Silesian sculptor Bogumił Burzyński. The monument was commissioned by METALPOL Węgierska Górka, a company operating on the site of the former ironworks.
Born in Końska in 1874, he managed the ironworks in Węgierska Górka from 1911. He studied the operation of blast furnaces and cupola furnaces, and the so-called Buzek number, relating to the amount of air in a cupola furnace, bears his name. He became a professor at the AGH University of Mining and Metallurgy in Kraków in 1936 and established the Department of Metallurgy of Raw Materials and Foundry there. He died in Węgierska Górka on 9 February 1939.
