A museum in Sosnowiec about Mother Teresa Kierocińska and the Carmelite congregation, with a recreated cell and chapel.
The Museum of the Mother House of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Carmelites of the Child Jesus is in Sosnowiec, at Matki Teresy Kierocińskiej 25. It tells the story of the congregation's founders and of Mother Teresa Kierocińska, known as the Mother of the Dąbrowa Basin.
The permanent exhibition occupies 390 square metres in 11 rooms. The route includes the congregation's first chapel with a tabernacle, Stations of the Cross and stained-glass windows, and a recreated cell of Mother Teresa with original furniture and personal items. A reconstructed classroom with a tailoring and embroidery workshop is also shown, along with original liturgical vestments and embroidery.
The Wieluń Room describes Mother Teresa's childhood in her home town, and the Mercy Room describes the sisters' charitable work during the occupation, including the rescue of Jews. A “Righteous Among the Nations” diploma is displayed in this room. In the multimedia hall a documentary film, “She Was Never Alone”, is screened. Around the museum lie the Stawiki ponds, and in the town centre stands the cathedral basilica.
