A reservoir in a former sand pit in Sosnowiec, with a bathing area, a wake zone, a cycling loop and a 732 m educational trail.
Stawiki is a body of water in the western part of Sosnowiec, on the border with Katowice, around which a bathing area, a water sports centre and an educational trail have been set up. The area lies on the edge of the Jan Fusiński Park, less than 2 km from the town centre.
The pond was created on the site of a former sand pit, like the other water bodies of the Szopienice-Borki nature and landscape complex in the Brynica valley. The water surface covers 7.8 ha, and the average depth is 3 m, the maximum 5 m. Before 1960 the area belonged to the town of Szopienice, and only by an administrative decision did it end up within the boundaries of Sosnowiec.
By the water there is a municipal beach about 100 m long, supervised in the summer season, with a changing room and toilets. The bathing area is marked off in a stretch of water measuring 100 by 60 m, and the water quality is under constant supervision of the sanitary inspectorate. The reservoir is also an angling fishery.
Since 2014 there has been a wake zone with a cable tow across the pond and rental points. After a renovation completed in 2017 it is a wakeboarding and water skiing centre, where national and international competitions have been held.
On land there are a cycling loop 1.8 km long, a pump track (150 m), a rope park with two routes, a playground, an outdoor gym and a metropolitan bike station. Around the reservoir stand 70 benches.
The trail is 732 m long with 8 stops, including the Clearing, the Peat Bog, the Windthrow and the Broad-leaved Helleborine. It leads through forest, peat bogs and meadows, and at the stops there is information about the vegetation and tasks for children. On the trail there is also a demonstration beehive, a fire pit and a shelter.
