An ethnographic museum in Panewniki with about 200 exhibits from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
The Missionary Museum of the Franciscan Fathers is in Katowice-Panewniki, at ulica Związkowa 20, next to the Franciscan monastery. The exhibition hall was opened on 30 October 2003, and the objects collected in it were brought by Franciscan missionaries from Upper Silesia.
The museum has about 200 exhibits, mainly ethnographic: from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. They are handicrafts and folk art from the countries where the missionaries worked, including Bolivia, the Central African Republic, Tanzania, Morocco, the Holy Land, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Estonia. The exhibition is complemented by films on missionary themes.
Right next door, about 200 m away, stands the Basilica of St Louis the King and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For a walk in the greenery you can go to Zadole Park, about a kilometre away.
