Zadole Park

Park Zadole is a city park in the Katowice district of Ligota, in its southernmost part. It covers 7.76 ha and, together with Kościuszko Park and the Katowice Forest Park, is one of the city's larger recreation areas. Its official name is Tereny Rekreacyjne Zadole (Zadole Recreation Grounds).

Where it lies and how it is laid out

The park begins at Wczasowa and Poziomkowa streets. It is crossed by Śląska and Studencka streets, and beyond them it forms a forest that reaches all the way to Mikołów and joins the Panewniki Forests. The name Park Zadole was given by a resolution of the Katowice City Council on 27 September 2010, although it had been used informally before.

What is in the park

The park has a skate track, a cycle path, a small amphitheatre and tennis courts. A student housing estate also stands on its grounds. Since 2019 there has also been a brine graduation tower here, built from the city's participatory budget.

The brine graduation tower

The graduation tower project was submitted under the participatory budget in 2017. Construction work took place in 2018-2019, and the structure opened in April 2019. The main structure is rectangular in plan, measuring 11.6 m by 37.8 m, and is 7 m high.

The tower is fed with brine from the “Korona” borehole in Dębowiec. Using it is free of charge, and it is open from April to October. Benches and flowerbeds stand around it. It is managed by the Municipal Greenery Authority in Katowice.
