A villa in Wisła where Julian Ochorowicz ran a psychological laboratory, now home to the Museum of Magical Realism.
Ochorowiczówka is a villa in Wisła where Julian Ochorowicz set up his home, studio and psychological laboratory, and which today houses the Museum of Magical Realism. It stands at Juliana Ochorowicza 6.
Julian Ochorowicz was a philosopher, psychologist and researcher of mediumistic phenomena, regarded as a pioneer of experimental psychology and hypnology. After a divorce, around 1899, he moved to Wisła, then a quiet and little-known place. Together with the architect and ethnographer Bogdan Hoff he built several villa-guesthouses there, among them "Maja", "Sokół" and "Placówka".
Ochorowiczówka is regarded as the first brick building in Wisła and stands to this day. Ochorowicz ran a non-public psychological laboratory in it, and also worked on photographic technology and the construction of electrical measuring instruments. Guests of the guesthouses in Wisła are said to have included Bolesław Prus, Władysław Reymont and Maria Konopnicka.
In the building where Ochorowicz carried out his research there is the Museum of Magical Realism, devoted to his work. The exhibition and opening hours are best checked with the museum before a visit. In the area, about half a kilometre away, is the Adam Małysz Sports Trophies Gallery in Wisła.
