Palace in Zabrze-Mikulczyce

Lipowa 11, Zabrze
About Palace in Zabrze-Mikulczyce

The oldest surviving building in Zabrze, a brick palace with a mansard roof and a triangular projecting bay.

The palace in Mikulczyce is regarded as the oldest surviving building in Zabrze. It stands on ul. Lipowa, is entered in the heritage register and forms part of a palace complex together with the park and the forge.

Where it comes from

The origins of the building probably go back to the 16th century, and the heritage register dates it to the second half of the 16th century. On a ceiling beam the date 1661 was found, which makes it possible to link a later stage in the building's history with that year. The walls are brick.

What it looks like

The two-storey palace was built on a rectangular plan and covered with a hipped mansard roof with dormers. From the front projects a two-storey bay three windows wide, topped with a triangular pediment. It is a compact block of the small-residence type, not an imposing castle, and it is precisely its age that is its greatest value.
