Baroque palace from the 18th century with a park and a former manor farm, being restored after years of neglect.
The palace in Wilkowice in Zbrosławice municipality is a Baroque building from the 18th century, surrounded by a landscape park and the buildings of a former manor farm. It is entered in the heritage register, and its walls are of stone. It stands on ul. Księżoleśna, right next to the Adventure and Attractions Park.
The palace was built probably in the 1780s or 1790s, on the initiative of the Larisch family. According to some researchers the construction is older: they link it with Joachim Larisch and the first half of the 18th century. Around 1816 the owner was Karl Koschutzki, and at the end of the 19th century the estate was bought by Karl Henckel von Donnersmarck. The Donnersmarcks renovated and extended the whole palace and manor farm complex: a porch was added, the interiors were decorated with new stucco work and stoves, and new buildings went up on the farm.
From 1945 the palace belonged to the State Treasury, and its user was the State Agricultural Farm in Tarnowice Stare. The building fell into decay, and the renovations of the 1950s and 1960s did not improve its condition; the stucco work in the interiors was largely destroyed. Today the palace is privately owned and is being gradually renovated.
The two-storey, rendered palace is covered by a mansard roof. The nine-bay façade has a wide projecting bay ending in a triangular gable. In the surroundings there is a 19th-century landscape park and manor farm buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. During exploratory investigations commissioned by the monument conservator in 2018, rich painted decoration from the last quarter of the 19th century was uncovered in some rooms, including, in the first-floor salon, garlands of flowers and fruit and fragments of nude figures in the corners.
