Classicist pavilion on an oval plan on an island in the Pszczyna park, today with a seasonal tea room.
The Tea Pavilion on the island is a small Classicist structure hidden among trees on an island in the middle of the backwaters of the Pszczynka river, in the park by Pszczyna Castle. The brick, single-storey pavilion stands on an oval plan and has oval window openings. It is covered by an original domed mansard roof.
The pavilion was built in the third quarter of the 19th century, on the wave of renewed interest in Oriental culture. It combines features of a Romantic temple of contemplation with the chinoiseries fashionable at the time, that is, park pavilions in which, during the ritual of brewing and drinking tea, people sought a bond with the surrounding nature. The heritage register defines the style as Neoclassical and the structure as a brick park building.
Around the pavilion several sandstone tables with octagonal tops have survived, at which tea was once drunk. At a later period they were used as plinths for park sculptures. The pavilion itself was entered in the heritage register in 2023.
In season a tea room with café tables in the open air operates in the pavilion. Check the offer and the season on the tea room's website. Nearby is also the Bison Show Reserve in Pszczyna.
