A bison breeding enclosure open to visitors in Pszczyna Park, opened in 2008.
The Bison Show Reserve in Pszczyna (Pokazowa Zagroda Żubrów) is a bison breeding facility open to visitors in the historic Pszczyna Park, in the part known as the Menagerie Park (Park Zwierzyniec). It opened on 1 June 2008, and the two enclosures cover about 10 ha in total.
The idea arose at the end of the 1990s. Work on the documentation began in 1999, and construction started in June 2007. The project was carried out as part of Polish-Czech cooperation.
The facility was meant to show the biodiversity of the old Pszczyna forests and to become an additional breeding centre for the Pszczyna lowland sub-line of the European bison line.
The most important are the European bison. In the enclosures you can also see mouflon, red deer, fallow deer and roe deer, and birds: ducks, ruddy shelducks, barnacle geese, geese, swans and Indian peafowl.
The reserve's website lists an educational trail, "In the Footsteps of the European Bison", nature classes called "Lesson of Nature", a map of the grounds and a photo gallery. The reserve also has an educational exhibition and a three-dimensional show about bison.
Current opening hours and bison feeding times are listed on the reserve's official website.
The reserve is part of the park complex in which stands Pszczyna Castle with the Castle Museum. Not far away, about a kilometre further, lies the Pszczyna Village Farmstead.
