The former market square of Bogucice

In the period of the German Empire, until 1922, the square was called Marktplatz, in Polish Rynek (Market Square). In the interwar period it bore the name Plac Stefana, and in the years of the German occupation of Poland Stephansplatz. The present patron of the square is Wincenty Wajda, a miner and soldier of the Home Army (AK).

The monument on the square

The first monument to the fallen Silesian Insurgents, designed by Jan Raszka, was unveiled here on 18 September 1930. The Germans destroyed it in September 1939. On the site of the prewar one stands a monument to those who fell in the Silesian Uprisings and in the Second World War, erected in 1951.
