A monument to the miner Józef Wieczorek from 1947, renewed in 2010 as a sculpture in the shape of a colourful hand.
A small monument in Janów-Nikiszowiec, on Zofii Nałkowskiej Street, opposite Zillmann Brothers Square (plac Braci Zillmannów). It commemorates Józef Wieczorek, a miner of the Giesche mine (later the Wieczorek mine) who became a politician.
The first monument, with a bronze bust, was unveiled in 1947. Its author was the sculptor Paweł Orłowski. The bronze bust was stolen at the beginning of the 21st century. The initiative to restore the monument was taken by Wieczorek's descendants, and the monument, renewed on 17 November 2010, was supported by the Wilson Shaft Gallery and the Eko Art Silesia Foundation.
The present sculpture has the shape of an open hand in the Art Nouveau style, and each finger is painted a different colour: black, green, blue, yellow and red. The monument stands on Nałkowskiej Street, next to Zillmann Brothers Square, right beside the Nikiszowiec estate, so it is easy to combine with a walk around this district.
