Monument commemorating 24 ZWZ-AK soldiers hanged by the Germans on 20 March 1942 in the park on the Olza.
A monument in the city park on the Olza in Cieszyn commemorates 24 soldiers of the Union of Armed Struggle of the Home Army (ZWZ-AK), killed by the Germans on 20 March 1942. The park is known as Pod Wałką.
In the park the Germans hanged 24 Poles, soldiers of the armed underground, on a wooden gallows. Nineteen of them were brought from the prison in Mysłowice, the remaining five from the prison in Cieszyn. The condemned came from Cieszyn Silesia. All Polish residents of the town who had not signed the Volksliste were ordered to attend the execution site.
The monument stands on the spot where the sentence was carried out. Every year a roll-call ceremony takes place at the monument, attended by the city authorities and veterans' organisations.
