Silesian Insurgents Monument in Kostuchna

Katowice
About Silesian Insurgents Monument in Kostuchna

An obelisk with the names of 85 Silesian insurgents from Kostuchna, recreated in 2002 after the monument of 1922.

The Silesian Insurgents Monument in Kostuchna is an obelisk in the square named after Blessed Stanisław Kubista, not far from the Church of the Holy Trinity. It commemorates residents of the district who fought in the Silesian Uprisings, and is one of the local monuments of this kind in Katowice.

Two monuments in one place

The first monument was erected in 1922, the year part of Upper Silesia was incorporated into Poland. In 1939 it was destroyed by the Germans. The present obelisk was unveiled in 2002, on the eightieth anniversary of that event, as a faithful replica of the earlier design. The monument bears the names of 85 insurgents from Kostuchna.
