Student Monument in Katowice

The Student Monument stands in front of the rectorate of the University of Silesia in Katowice, at Bankowa 12. It is a bronze sculpture of a young man in a four-cornered cap and with a bare torso.

Where it came from

The idea of building it came from the university authorities and the city of Katowice. The authors are staff of the Department of Sculpture at the Institute of Art of the University of Silesia in Cieszyn: Prof. Jerzy Fober and Prof. Andrzej Szarek. The monument was unveiled on 24 June 2008.

What it looks like

The sculpture shows a smiling young man and refers to the ancient Greek motif of the kouros. It is about two metres tall and cast in bronze.
