About Pszów Calvary

A complex of Stations of the Cross chapels in Pszów, consecrated in 1929.

The Pszów Calvary is a complex of chapels in Pszów, built in the early 20th century and consecrated on 1 September 1929. It is entered in the heritage register, and its beginnings go back to an idea of the parish priest of the Pszów basilica.

How the calvary came about

Construction was begun in 1907 by Father Bruno Laska, who intended to build a complex of chapels.

First, oak posts with pictures of the Stations of the Cross were set up, and by 1911 three chapels were ready, including the building of the future church. They were designed and built by Walenty Maciejek. The outbreak of the First World War interrupted the work, and a fire destroyed part of the furnishings. Father Mikołaj Knosala completed the construction in the 1920s. Each chapel received a different decor, and the sculptures of the Stations of the Cross were made by the Poznań firm Panka. One of the interiors was designed by Ludwik Konarzewski.

After the war and today

After the Second World War the calvary was cared for by Father Wojciech Urban of Rydułtowy, its rector from 1964.

In the 1980s, as the pilgrimage movement grew, the church was rebuilt and a bell tower and a chapel of Our Lady of Schoenstatt were added next to it. In 1987 a parish was established at the church.
