Cisy nad Liswartą Nature Reserve

Herby
About Cisy nad Liswartą Nature Reserve

A forest reserve in Herby municipality with about 600 yews in riparian forest and bog pine forest, and a nature trail.

The Cisy nad Liswartą forest reserve (Yews on the Liswarta) lies in Herby municipality, near the hamlet of Łęg and the village of Łebki. It was established in 1957 on 21.85 ha, and in 2016 it was enlarged to 53.98 ha.

What is protected here

The reserve protects sites of the common yew, about 600 specimens up to 200 years old, growing in ash-alder riparian forest and bog pine forest. The most impressive yews reach 10.5 m in height. Tall ash, sycamore and downy birch also grow here, and at least 17 species of protected plants have sites here, among them mezereon, ivy and common spotted orchid. Among birds, common species predominate, such as the black woodpecker and the tawny owl.

The landscape park and neighbours

The reserve belongs to the Forests on the Upper Liswarta Landscape Park, and nearby lies another yew reserve, Cisy w Łebkach.

Practical information

  • Through the reserve runs the "Cisy nad Liswartą" nature and educational trail, with seven stops.
  • The reserve lies by the blue cycle path and the road linking Łebki with Tanina, close to a sharp bend to the west.
