A museum by the Piekary sanctuary, with the history of the cult of the Piekary image of Our Lady, papal gifts and wooden sculptures from the Calvary.
The Sanctuary Museum in Piekary Śląskie has operated since 2009 by the sanctuary of Our Lady of Justice and Social Love. It tells the story of the image of Our Lady of Piekary and its 350-year-old cult.
The collection includes a stone font of 1303, replicas of the crowns placed on the image in 1925, and gifts presented by King John III Sobieski, Lech Wałęsa and the parish priests of the basilica. One room is devoted to John Paul II and his ties with the Piekary sanctuary, and contains votive offerings he gave: a golden rosary, a stole and a candle with the papal coat of arms. In the next room stand wooden sculptures that formerly decorated the chapel of the Piekary Calvary.
The museum belongs to the sanctuary complex, whose heart is the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Bartholomew.
