Soszowska 10, Wisła
About Mountain Hut on Soszów Wielki

A private tourist hut from 1932 on the ridge of Soszów Wielki in the Silesian Beskids, at a trail junction and on the Main Beskid Trail.

The hut on Soszów Wielki is a private tourist hut in the Silesian Beskids, at an altitude of about 792 m above sea level. It stands about 500 m north of the summit of Soszów Wielki (885 m), at a trail junction, within the boundaries of the town of Wisła, at ul. Soszowska 10. It was built in 1932 and has been an important stopping place on the ridge of the Stożek and Czantoria range ever since.

History of the hut

The hut, with 40 beds, was opened in 1932 by Paweł Polok.

It was then run by his daughter Anna and her husband Jan Gajdzica, who at the beginning of the Second World War was deported to forced labour; he returned in 1941. During that time the Germans forced his wife to lease the building to the Beskidenverein. After the war the hut was considerably extended, and on 10 March 1946 the first tourist station of the Cieszyn branch of the Polish Tatra Society was set up in it.

What a stay is like

According to the description, the hut has 33 beds in rooms for 2-6 people.

Nearby are ski lifts and a ski run. On the north-eastern slope of Soszów Wielki operates the Soszów Ski Station, with a chairlift, a T-bar lift, three button lifts and nearly 6 km of runs of varying difficulty. On the border ridge, slightly north of the summit, stands also the mountain guesthouse “Zagroda Lepiarzówka”.

Trails and views

The Main Beskid Trail runs over the summit of Soszów Wielki, and next to the hut trails branch off to Czantoria Wielka, Stożek and to Wisła Jawornik.

From Czantoria Wielka via the Beskidek pass it takes about 1 hour 15 minutes, from Stożek about 1 hour 15 minutes, and from Wisła Uzdrowisko about 2 hours 15 minutes. Soszów Wielki is a viewpoint: the panorama takes in a large part of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, Stożek Wielki, the western part of Malá Fatra and the ridge of Jaworniki. The state border between Poland and the Czech Republic runs over the summit.
