Parish church in Zawiercie built in 1988-1992, with a bronze monument of its patron by Czesław Dźwigaj.
The Church of St Brother Albert Chmielowski is a parish church in Zawiercie, built in 1988-1992 to a design by the architect Włodzimierz Domagała. It stands on a plot between Żabia and Obrońców Poczty Gdańskiej streets.
The parish was established on 20 May 1987 by Bishop Stanisław Nowak, who separated its territory from the parish of Sts Peter and Paul the Apostles. The plot was bought in 1985, and in the first years services were held in a chapel set up in a hut on the future building site. The building permit was issued in October 1987, work began in May 1988 and the foundation stone was laid on 4 September that year. The finished church was consecrated on 17 June 1992.
The interior was completed over the following years. From 1999, to a design by architects from Częstochowa, the high altar of “Ecce Homo” was built, along with side altars of Divine Mercy and Our Lady of Częstochowa, and two stained-glass windows were installed. The solemn blessing of the interior took place on 10 October 1999. In 2000 a bronze monument of St Brother Albert by Professor Czesław Dźwigaj of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków was placed in front of the church.
Nearby are Tadeusz Kościuszko Park and the brine graduation tower.
