A Baroque brick church from 1786-1794 in Sośnicowice, built after the town fire.
St James' Church in Sośnicowice is a brick, single-nave church in the Baroque style, built in 1786-1794 and entered in the heritage register. It stands in a town where the palace in Sośnicowice lies right beside it.
The first Catholic church was built here in the 13th century, and the wooden building was burnt during the Hussite wars in 1433. The second, late Gothic wooden church existed until the town fire of 1780, and in 1555-1679 it was in Protestant hands. The present building was erected in its place, funded by the Counts Scherr-Thoss-Chorinsky. Beneath the church is a burial crypt.
Late Baroque altars and wrought-iron doors separating the chancel from the sacristy have survived. The interior was restored in 1958, exterior work was carried out in 1965, and the façade was renovated in 2009. The new organ dates from 2005.
