A neo-Gothic Evangelical Augsburg church from 1860-1861 in Mikołów, designed by Friedrich August Stüler.
St John's Church on ks. Jana Karpeckiego Square in Mikołów is a neo-Gothic church of the Evangelical Augsburg parish, built of brick in 1860-1861. It was entered in the heritage register in 2006.
The Evangelical parish in Mikołów was re-established in 1854, and a year later a plot was bought on the hill where the church of St Nicholas had earlier stood. The design was by Friedrich August Stüler. The foundation stone was laid on 14 June 1860, and the dedication took place on 29 October 1861. Money and materials were donated by, among others, the Silesian Gustav Adolf Association and the Prince of Pszczyna. The church has a single nave and a single tower, and above the main entrance is a cast head of Christ, probably the work of August Karl Kiss.
The neo-Gothic altar is decorated with a painting of Jesus asking “Whom do you seek?”, painted by the Berlin painter Radtke. The font and pulpit are also neo-Gothic. On the pulpit, beside Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon, stand sculptures of Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin and Bishop Nicholas Zinzendorf, which reflects the Lutheran-Calvinist union in Upper Silesia. The organ was built by Carl Volkmann of Gliwice and has 16 stops.
