About St Martin's Church in Stanica

A Neoclassical church from 1801-1804, built on the decision of the last Cistercian abbot of Rudy.

St Martin's Church in Stanica is a Neoclassical brick church from the early 19th century, belonging to the parish of St Martin in the Pilchowice municipality. It has a single nave and one tower, and the roof is covered with copper sheet.

Construction

The earlier church was wooden and was pulled down in 1803. The decision to build the new church was made by the last Cistercian abbot of Rudy, Bernard Andreas Galbiers. On behalf of the order it was supervised by Fr Grzegorz Walentin, and the masonry work was led by a master builder from Racibórz, Jan Langer. Construction lasted from 1801 to 1804, and the church was consecrated in 1804. A renovation was carried out in 1994.

The interior is decorated with polychromes. The church is listed in the heritage register.
