A former synagogue from 1862-1863 at Piwna 2, a residential building since 1923, now heavily rebuilt.
The synagogue in Miasteczko Śląskie stood at what is now Piwna 2. In 1923 the building was converted into a dwelling house, and its rebuilt shell has survived to this day.
The first Jewish house of prayer in Miasteczko (German: Georgenberg) operated in the mid-19th century in a building owned by a private individual. Later the local Jews bought a plot at Piwna 2, and the synagogue was built in 1862-1863 and consecrated on 29 July 1863.
In 1921 the building, already in poor technical condition, was devastated by Silesian insurgents quartered in it. After the Jewish community of Miasteczko was dissolved in 1923, the building was sold and converted into a dwelling. Thanks to this it survived the German occupation during the Second World War.
The synagogue was a modest building on a rectangular plan, under a gable roof, with tall windows closed with semicircular arches. Today the building is heavily rebuilt, and a photograph on Wikimedia Commons describes it as a house on the site of the synagogue, or perhaps its heavily altered shell.
