A disused synagogue from 1880 on ulica Marszałkowska in Zawiercie, rebuilt after the war and now being revitalised.
The synagogue in Zawiercie is a brick house of prayer from 1880 on ulica Marszałkowska 41. Today it no longer serves a religious function, and the building is heavily altered and in need of renovation.
The synagogue was built in 1880 on a rectangular plan. In the western part was a vestibule leading into a spacious prayer hall. During the Second World War the Germans devastated the building.
After the war the building was rebuilt several times and lost its original appearance, both outside and inside. For a long time it housed shops, including ones selling radio, TV and household appliances. Later the building stood abandoned and fell into disrepair.
The building has been handed over to the Zawiercie Land Scout Troop of the Polish Scouting Association (ZHP). A revitalisation process has begun, and the building is to become a Scouts' House (Dom Harcerza) with a cultural and educational function.
Another trace of the former Jewish community is the Jewish cemetery in Zawiercie, and right next to the building lies Tadeusz Kościuszko Park.
