Town hall of Königshütte from 1874-1876, rebuilt in 1927-1929, with a tower and stained glass in the council chamber.
The Town Hall stands on the Market Square (Rynek) in Chorzów and is the seat of the mayor and the city office. It was built for Królewska Huta (Königshütte), a town founded in 1868, and owes its present appearance to the rebuilding of 1927-1929.
Construction took place in 1874-1876 to a design by the local builder Benno Groetschel; the original building housed administrative offices and the registry office. The style was historicist, with elements of Neo-Renaissance and Mannerism. In 1927-1929 the building was extended and remodelled under the direction of Karol Schayer and Witold Eysymontt, and the tower was added at that time. The building is 36.63 m high.
The chamber is on the second floor. Its walls are covered in green marble and the ceiling is coffered. The chamber was given new benches and a presidium table at that time. Three rectangular windows measuring 640 by 215 cm are decorated with Art Deco stained glass depicting metallurgy, trade and industry, and mining. They were chosen in a competition in 1929 from six designs: the winner was the design by Jan Piasecki, and the glass was made by the S.G. Żeleński workshop of Kraków.
Close by is the Teatr Rozrywki, and a little under 3 km further on lies the Silesian Park.
