Late Baroque town hall from 1797 with a tower and coats of arms on the façade, in the western frontage of Skoczów Market Square.
The town hall stands in the western frontage of Skoczów Market Square. The late Baroque building with a tower marks the western side of the square.
The town hall was built in 1797 in the late Baroque style. The tower was added in 1801, and in 1934 the building was rebuilt. It is entered in the heritage register, with the first entry dating from 1953.
On the second floor, on both sides of the exit to the balcony, are two medallions with bas-relief coats of arms: of Skoczów and of Duke Albert Casimir of Cieszyn. Between them is the date 1797. At the base of the tower, in an oval moulded frame, there is an image of St John Sarkander, who is linked with Skoczów.
The adjoining tenement at no. 2 houses the John Sarkander Museum, so the Market Square is well combined with a short visit inside.
A hundred metres from the town hall stands the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross, and a little further the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. A walk around the Market Square therefore naturally takes in several points at once.
