A historic complex of station buildings from 1859-1931, renovated by 2021 and occupied by service venues.
The old railway station complex in Katowice is a group of buildings on Dworcowa Street, built in several stages between 1859 and 1931. The complex still stands and after years of neglect it has been renovated.
The complex was entered in the heritage register in 1975. Its architecture mixes Neoclassicism, Modernism and Art Nouveau, because the buildings were added at different times. After the new station opened in 1972 the old one ceased to serve its former function and housed shops, a gym and catering venues, while the condition of the buildings worsened from year to year.
In 2007 the complex was bought by a private investor with the intention of converting it into galleries and restaurants. The renovation was completed in December 2021. Today it houses catering venues, a hairdresser's, a music club, coworking offices and a bank branch. The complex is therefore more a place for a walk combined with a coffee than a museum, and the interiors are visited as a guest of the venues.
A few hundred metres away stands the Stanisław Wyspiański Silesian Theatre.
Right next door is also the Rialto Cinema-Theatre.
