Cabaret in the Silesian Voivodeship is played in large halls, cultural centres, clubs and restaurants. The calendar lists more than two hundred and forty shows in dozens of towns, so the choice of venue matters as much as the choice of programme. A big cultural centre usually means rows of seats, while a small club stage puts you close to the performers.
Easiest in Katowice, which has more than thirty shows in the calendar. Gliwice is not far behind, followed by Częstochowa, Bielsko-Biała and Rybnik, each with a dozen or a few dozen dates. Zabrze, Jaworzno, Pszczyna and Racibórz come next.

They are the two closest centres of the conurbation, so you can combine them in one trip. Scena Gliwicka 120 is in Katowice despite its name, and it has many events in the calendar. Katowice Miasto Ogrodów, an institution that bears the name of Krystyna Bochenek, also reaches the cabaret calendar, though less often. By its name, Klub Królestwo suggests a club setting for the evening.

In Częstochowa cabaret is played at Jagair and at the Klub Politechnik, in Bielsko-Biała at the Bielska Scena Reja, Cavatina Hall and Restauracja Miasto, and in Sosnowiec at a place called Księgarnia. Each of these towns has a handful or a dozen or so dates.
Częstochowa is third in the region for the number of shows, with more than twenty dates. Jagair has many cabaret shows listed, while the student cultural centre, the Klub Politechnik, has a few. Everything in the city, including music, theatre and cinema, is on Częstochowa.
The cabaret calendar of Bielsko-Biała holds nearly twenty events. Besides the places named above the town has music and theatre halls that partly overlap with the cabaret ones. All the events in the town are on Bielsko-Biała, and nearby Żywiec has its own page, Żywiec.
Cabaret in Sosnowiec is rarer, with a few dates at a place called Księgarnia. In Dąbrowa Górnicza cabaret turns up a handful of times. The Dąbrowa Basin is covered by Sosnowiec and Dąbrowa Górnicza.
Rybnik has a dozen or so shows in the calendar and three venues: Odyseja, Face 2 Face and the Dom Kultury in Niedobczyce. In Racibórz cabaret is played at the Raciborskie Centrum Kultury, and in Jastrzębie-Zdrój at the Miejski Ośrodek Kultury. Pszczyna, Wodzisław Śląski and Cieszyn complete this part of the region.
In Rybnik, Odyseja and Face 2 Face are club names, while the Dom Kultury in Niedobczyce is a local centre in one of the town's districts. That mix means the town offers both a small stage and a cultural-centre hall. The whole town is covered at Rybnik.
In Pszczyna cabaret is played at the Pszczyńskie Centrum Kultury, in Wodzisław Śląski at the Wodzisławskie Centrum Kultury, and in Cieszyn at the Cieszyński Ośrodek Kultury Dom Narodowy. For Racibórz see Racibórz, for Cieszyn Cieszyn, and for Jastrzębie-Zdrój Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
Cabaret takes place in three kinds of venue: municipal cultural centres, clubs and eating places, and larger concert halls. The type of venue hints at what the evening will be like.
Cultural centres are the most common type. They include the centres in Pszczyna, Racibórz and Wodzisław Śląski, the Centrum Kultury Karolinka in Radzionków, the Siemianowickie Centrum Kultury, the Dom Kultury Bielszowice in Ruda Śląska, the municipal cultural centres in Łaziska Górne and Myszków, and the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury in Jaworzno. They usually offer an auditorium with rows of seats.
Clubs and eating places include the Underground Pub in Tychy, Dolna Bar in Tarnowskie Góry, Restauracja Miasto in Bielsko-Biała, the Jazz Club Muzeum in Jaworzno, Leśniczówka Rock'n'Roll Cafe in Chorzów and Oficyna in Zabrze. Their names suggest places where an ordinary evening out sits beside the show.
Among the large halls is the Dom Muzyki i Tańca in Zabrze, which has its own entry, Dom Muzyki i Tańca. The 1959 building has a hall for almost two thousand people, so cabaret fits there with a large audience.
Beyond the biggest centres, cabaret has between a few and a dozen or so dates in a number of towns. Each has only a small choice of venues, so it helps to know them by name.
Zabrze has a dozen or so shows: the calendar lists them at the Dom Muzyki i Tańca and at Oficyna. Jaworzno has ten and two venues, the Jazz Club Muzeum and the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury. Pszczyna and Racibórz have eight dates each, at the Pszczyńskie Centrum Kultury and the Raciborskie Centrum Kultury respectively. Jastrzębie-Zdrój and Sosnowiec have seven dates each.
Tarnowskie Góry and Ruda Śląska have six dates each. Chorzów, Radzionków and Tychy have five each, and Siemianowice Śląskie, Żywiec, Bytom and Dąbrowa Górnicza four each. With numbers this small the dates can change from week to week, so open the event card and check the day before you set off.
A large hall suits you if you go with a group and want a comfortable seat, and a small venue if you prefer close contact with the performers and do not mind a table instead of a row of seats. Both options have addresses in the region.
Among the halls built for large audiences the calendar lists the Dom Muzyki i Tańca in Zabrze, Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała and Katowice Miasto Ogrodów. Among the smaller ones are Klub Królestwo in Katowice, Dobry Zbeer in Gliwice, Face 2 Face and Odyseja in Rybnik, and the Underground Pub in Tychy. Księgarnia in Sosnowiec and Dolna Bar in Tarnowskie Góry show in their names that they are unusual places for a show, and Restauracja Miasto in Bielsko-Biała is, by its name, an eating place.
In smaller towns cabaret appears less often and usually in one place: in Jaworzno at the Jazz Club Muzeum and at the Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury, in Tarnowskie Góry at Dolna Bar, in Radzionków at Karolinka. It pays to check the calendar before planning a trip.
It is worth knowing that the list of venues changes from month to month, and towns with one or two dates can be a good destination too. The calendar lists places such as Łaziska Górne, Myszków, Siemianowice Śląskie and Bytom. Look at Jaworzno, Ruda Śląska and Chorzów to see what else is on there.
The densest network of shows is in the conurbation, that is in Katowice, Gliwice, Zabrze, Chorzów, Ruda Śląska and the surrounding towns. In the north-west cabaret is played in Tarnowskie Góry, Radzionków and Bytom, and in the Dąbrowa Basin in Sosnowiec, Dąbrowa Górnicza and Siemianowice Śląskie.
The foothills of the Beskids are represented by Bielsko-Biała and Żywiec, and the Jura area near Częstochowa by Częstochowa and Myszków. In the south-west shows take place in Rybnik, Racibórz, Wodzisław Śląski, Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Pszczyna and Cieszyn. Tychy and Łaziska Górne lie between the conurbation and the south, and each has its own dates in the calendar.
