Events in Katowice: concerts at the NOSPR and Spodek, cinemas, theatres, cabaret and festivals. Pick a day and category in the calendar, then buy a ticket.
Katowice hosts concerts, film screenings, plays and cabaret every week, and on its larger stages also festivals and sports events. The calendar holds more than five hundred dates, so it is easiest to start from a category and only then choose a venue and a day.
The most dates in the calendar belong to the halls of the NOSPR (Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra), Kino Kosmos, Katowice Miasto Ogrodów, Scena Gliwicka 120, Kinoteatr Rialto, Kino Światowid, Energy2000 Katowice and the Pałac Młodzieży. Clearly fewer events are listed at Spodek, the International Congress Centre and the community culture centres, and single dates at clubs and smaller venues.
Teatr Bez Sceny and Old Timers Garage are also frequent addresses. It helps to know that one venue may be recorded under several names: the NOSPR has a concert hall and a chamber hall listed separately, Kino Kosmos has two screens, Kino Światowid has two screens, and the International Congress Centre has several entries. Before choosing an event, check which hall it is in.
Music is the largest category: more than two hundred dates, over two fifths of the whole calendar. You will find them on the page for concerts in Katowice, and the venues named most often are the NOSPR, Energy2000 Katowice, Klub Królestwo, Klub Pieron and Old Timers Garage.
One of the best-known venues is Spodek, in Koszutka at 35 Korfantego Avenue. It went up between 1964 and 1971 to plans by Maciej Gintowt and Maciej Krasiński, and the main hall, covered in aluminium scales, resembles an upturned truncated cone. An ice rink and a pool belong to it, and the building is a symbol of Katowice. In 2025 the buildings gained monument status.
Smaller concerts take place in the International Congress Centre (the auditorium hall), at Katowice Miasto Ogrodów and in clubs. They are usually fewer than at the NOSPR, so check the day in the calendar before you choose.
Cinema is another large group: more than one hundred and twenty dates, collected on the page for cinemas and screenings in Katowice. The calendar most often lists Kino Kosmos with its NOSTROMO and SOLARIS screens, Kino Światowid with its Ukryte and Królestwo screens, and Kinoteatr Rialto.
Kinoteatr Rialto at św. Jana 24 has been running since 1913, so for more than a hundred years. Today it is operated by the Silesia Film Institution, a cultural institution of the Silesian regional government. It is an arthouse cinema with a classicist facade, and its stage and hall also host concerts, plays and meetings. It was built in 1912 as the Kammerlichtspiele by the master builder Martin Tichauer together with the merchant Berthold Kochmann, owner of the plot on what was then Johannstrasse.
Theatre accounts for more than one hundred dates in the calendar. They are collected on the page for theatres and plays in Katowice, and besides theatres the calendar also names stages at the Pałac Młodzieży, Old Timers Garage, the P23 stage at the Porcelain Factory and Scena Gliwicka 120.
Teatr Bez Sceny has worked since 1997 on Trzeciego Maja Street, number 11 and keeps an intimate character. It presents Polish and world drama, and its repertoire is dominated by contemporary comedies and dramas. Its productions have been nominated for the Golden Masks ten times, with the award given five times, and the company was also given a Special Golden Mask for the idea behind its work.
Teatr Żelazny is an independent repertory stage, and its operator is an association set up in 2011. Its seat is at Gliwicka 148a in Załęże. The theatre stages plays for adults and for children and also runs theatre education. Since 2021 it has rented from the city a former school building: the rooms serve as workshop and rehearsal spaces, offices and storage, while an audience of 139 seats has been arranged in a temporary hall.
Beyond concerts, cinema and theatre the calendar has several smaller categories. There are more than thirty cabaret dates (cabaret in Katowice), a dozen or so festivals (festivals in Katowice) and a few sports events (sport in Katowice).
Parents can look at the page for events for children in Katowice. Plays for the youngest are staged by, among others, Teatr Żelazny, and on a rainy day you can choose a cinema. Single events fall into the category Other.
Smaller events in the districts take place at community culture centres: Dom Kultury Witosa, Miejski Dom Kultury Szopienice-Giszowiec, Miejski Dom Kultury Giszowiec (branch no. 2) and Miejski Dom Kultury Bogucice-Zawodzie. They have a few entries or single ones in the calendar, so check them if you are looking for something close to home.
Single venues also include Strefa Centralna, the Aficionado Cigar Club and an Evangelical-Augsburg church. These are addresses in Katowice that appear in the calendar, and their profile is best checked against a particular date.
Choose the day first, then the category, and the venue last. Beside each date there is a “Buy ticket” button that takes you to the service selling tickets for the event. Between events you can check what to see in Katowice, since the city has more than two hundred and seventy places to visit.
