About Acrobat

A four-metre steel sculpture by Dariusz Fodczuk from 2009 in the park by the town hall in Bielsko-Biała.

The Acrobat is a four-metre steel sculpture in the park by the town hall in Bielsko-Biała, showing a man standing on his head on an open book. The author is Dariusz Fodczuk, and it was unveiled in 2009.

How it came about

The sculpture was created as part of the international artistic residency “Incydenty 2009”, organised by the Bielska BWA Gallery. It was supported by the Norwegian financial mechanism and the budget of the Silesian Voivodeship. It was one of four sculptures made during this programme, and it was unveiled on 12 October 2009.

What it shows

The figure standing on its head is meant to symbolise the people who “stood on their heads” to develop the industry and technology of Bielsko and Biała from the end of the 19th century. The book beneath adds a theme of knowledge and science.
