About Reksio Monument in Bielsko-Biała

A bronze monument-fountain showing Reksio the dog, unveiled in 2009 in the centre of Bielsko-Biała by the Biała River.

The Reksio Monument in Bielsko-Biała (Pomnik Reksia) is a monument-fountain in the town centre, on a square between 11 Listopada and Stojałowskiego streets, by the Biała River. It depicts the dog from the animated series that was made at the Bielsko Cartoon Film Studio (Studio Filmów Rysunkowych). It stands on the Fairy-Tale Bielsko-Biała trail, laid out among monuments to characters from Polish cartoons made by this studio.

What the monument shows

Reksio stands on his hind legs, holding one front paw to his muzzle and pointing at the fountain with the other. The sculpture is cast in bronze, is 90 cm tall and weighs 130 kg. An integral part of the monument is a fountain in the shape of an egg cut into four parts, from which water flows. The monument's author is the Bielsko artist Jerzy Mikler, and it was unveiled on 3 August 2009.

Who Reksio is

Reksio is the main character of an animated series created by Lechosław Marszałek. The series was produced at the Bielsko Cartoon Film Studio in 1967-1988, which is why the monument stands in Bielsko-Biała.
