Bat Observatory

About Bat Observatory

Observatory at the primary school in Brenna, where in summer you can watch a bat colony and see the Night Zone room.

The Bat Observatory in Brenna operates at Primary School No. 1 named after Janusz Korczak, in whose attic a colony of bats lives. The municipality runs tours here for visitors from spring to the end of summer.

What to see

In autumn the bats fly off to hibernate in mountain caves, and in spring and summer they return to the school attic, where you can observe their life. According to the municipality, a Night Zone (Strefa Nocy) has been created in the multimedia room: the walls and ceiling are painted as a night forest with flying bats and an owl, and in the corner stands an imitation cave. Darkened windows and special lighting create a night-time mood. Visitors look at 3D models of bats and wooden bat boxes, and thanks to special devices they hear the animals' sounds, including ultrasound, which the human ear normally cannot pick up.
