A private museum with several thousand exhibits on the history of bread, on the Industrial Monuments Route, with baking workshops.
The Bread Museum in Radzionków, later renamed the Museum of Bread, School and Curiosities, is a private educational institution opened in 2000 in the Rojca district. It displays above all bakery machines and tools, and visitors can shape and bake bread themselves.
The founder began by buying old tools of bakers and confectioners at antiques fairs. The museum was opened on 26 April 2000 at ul. Zofii Nałkowskiej 5 in Rojca, where it still operates. It is regarded as the first organised institution in Poland collecting items on this subject.
The collection numbers over ten thousand exhibits from the 16th to the 21st century: machines and equipment, old everyday objects, regional costumes, postcards, photographs, documents and books. A curiosity is the so-called bread money, for which in times of crisis only bread could be bought.
In 2022 the museum offered four permanent exhibitions: "From Grain to Loaf", "In the Old School", "Rozbark (Bytom) Costumes" and "Unusual Objects of Everyday Use".
The premises also include a highlander-style "bacówka" (shepherd's hut) room, made by highlanders, and an "old school" room in which a classroom from a hundred years ago has been recreated. Visitors can take part in baking workshops.
Since 19 October 2006 the museum has been on the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship, and since 2010 it has taken part in successive editions of Industriada. About 40,000 people visit it each year, from nursery children to seniors.
