Bathhouse of the Queen Louise Mine in Zabrze

Wolności 408, Zabrze
About Bathhouse of the Queen Louise Mine in Zabrze

A brick chain bathhouse from 1890, today part of the historic Queen Louise Adit.

The chain bathhouse of the Queen Louise mine is a brick building from 1890 on Wolności Street in Zabrze. It is one of the surface buildings around the Carnall shaft and one of three sites of the Queen Louise Adit complex, part of the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze.

What the bathhouse was for

The building served as a sanitary facility for the mine's workers. It is entered in the heritage register, and the register gives its function as a bathhouse and its material as brick.

Today

The building has been renovated and opened to visitors. It houses catering, exhibition and tourist functions. The whole Queen Louise Adit complex links the Main Hereditary Key Adit with the Queen Louise mine. The adit was driven from 1799 and completed in 1863, and its total length is about 14.25 km. Almost 5 km of former workings have been opened to tourists, with three underground routes: general, family and water. The revitalisation of the complex received the Europa Nostra Grand Prix in 2019, and since 2020 the mine has belonged to the “Zabrze - complex of historic coal mines” historic monument, recognised by a presidential decree.

Nearby

Closest, about 600 metres away, is the Museum of Military Technology, and not far away stands the water tower. It is about 1.2 km to the Guido Coal Mine.
