An octagonal brick chapel from 1803 in Kromołów, over the source of the Warta, rebuilt in 1988.
The Chapel of St John of Nepomuk stands in Kromołów, a district of Zawiercie, over the source of the river Warta. It is entered in the municipal register of historic monuments of the Zawiercie municipality.
The earlier small chapel on this spot was destroyed by the fire of Kromołów in 1790. The present one was built in 1803. It survived in unchanged form until 1988, when, because the level of the streets had risen, it was decided to dismantle the building and raise it by a metre. After the rebuilding it was recreated exactly, though with slight changes: for example, the decorative arrangement of bricks above the entrance was dropped.
The chapel is built of brick and has the shape of an octagonal block. The roof is covered with sheet metal, and a small bell turret with a cross sits on top. On the altar hangs a painting of St Thecla, with a figure of St Hyacinth on the left and St John of Nepomuk on the right.
The river comes to the surface near the fire station. In 1912 and 1966 the Warta swelled along this stretch to half the height of the surrounding houses. A few kilometres away lies the Railway Park in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, and a little further the Trail of the Eagles' Nests.
