A parish church in the Trynek district of Gliwice, built in the 1980s and consecrated in 1991.
The Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa is a parish church in the Trynek district of Gliwice. It is a building of the 1980s and early 1990s, built from scratch for a newly forming community.
Work began in 1983, when Bishop Antoni Adamiuk blessed the cross and the building site. The foundation stone was laid on 4 December 1984 by Bishop Alfons Nossol. The stone had been blessed earlier, on 21 June 1983 at Góra Świętej Anny, by John Paul II. The parish was established on 27 August 1988, and Bishop Gerard Kusz consecrated the finished church on 6 October 1991.
Beside the church stands a bell tower with three bells, designed by Jan Rabiej of Gliwice. The bells bear the names of St Michael the Archangel (1,050 kg), St Maximilian Maria Kolbe (495 kg) and St Thaddeus (120 kg). The first two were cast in 1987 at the Felczyński bell foundry in Taciszów, and the third is a gift from 1984. Next to the church lies its builder, Monsignor Józef Maciaszek, who died in 1994.
It is about two kilometres from here to the centre of Gliwice. Nearby you will find, among other places, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
A little further on, towards the old town, stands the Piast Castle in Gliwice.
