About Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Kalety

A parish church from 1984-1987 in Drutarnia, a district of Kalety, with interior decoration by an artist from Opole.

The Church of Our Lady of Fatima stands in Drutarnia, a district of Kalety, and is one of three parish churches in the town. It belongs to the Woźniki deanery of the Gliwice diocese.

How the church came about

In 1977 Bishop Herbert Bednorz established the parish of St John the Baptist in Brusiek, and in 1982 the parish received permission to build a parish centre. The land for the building was donated by local families. The design was prepared by Jacek Niedźwiedzki and Jacek Hajkowski of Czechowice-Dziedzice, and the interior decoration is the work of Gisbert Rzeźniczek of Opole.

Construction and blessing

The site for the church was blessed in 1984, and construction lasted from 1984 to 1987. The church was blessed on 13 October 1987 by Bishop Janusz Zimniak. By a decree of 1988 Bishop Damian Zimoń changed the dedication of the parish to Our Lady of Fatima and made the church in Drutarnia a parish church.
