About Church of St Joseph in Kalety

A neo-Gothic parish church from 1900 in Jędrysek, a district of Kalety, with an organ from 1903.

The Church of St Joseph is a neo-Gothic parish church in Jędrysek, a district of Kalety. It belongs to the Woźniki deanery of the Diocese of Gliwice. It was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and has been extended and rebuilt several times since.

Construction and later alterations

The design was prepared by the architect Otto Kotzulla of Tarnowskie Góry, and the work was directed by Albert Felix. The foundation stone was laid on 29 May 1899, and the church was consecrated on 16 August 1900. The growing number of parishioners made an extension necessary, completed in 1950. In 1968 the church was rebuilt and the chancel thoroughly altered, and it was re-consecrated on 19 May 1975.

In 1999-2001 a major renovation began, and in 2004 new lighting was installed, and a new high altar, side altars, pulpit, font and organ were made. The interior paintwork was also renewed and earlier paintings were discovered in the chancel. The author of the present decoration of the chancel is the architect Henryk Dragon of Kalety.

Organ and bells

The organ was built in 1903 by the Gliwice organ builder Ernst Kurzer; at that time the instrument had 11 stops, one manual and a pedalboard. It was later enlarged, and a general overhaul was carried out at the end of 2015. Three bells hang in the tower.
