A parish church in Zabrze-Grzybowice, which since 1945 has been housed in an adapted barrack, with a new church being built next to it.
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is a parish church in Zabrze's Grzybowice district, belonging to the Zabrze-Mikulczyce deanery of the Diocese of Gliwice. For decades its role was played by an adapted barrack, and a new church is being built next to it.
The building that serves as the church was earlier a youth association club, a Jugendheim. In January 1945 the parish priest of the Holy Trinity parish in Wieszowa, together with the faithful of Grzybowice, took over the empty building and began adapting it for services. The chapel was blessed on 23 December 1945.
With the consent of the church authorities a local benefice (lokalia), separated from the parish in Wieszowa, was created at the chapel. By decree of Bishop Franciszek Jop of 1 January 1958 the benefice became an independent parish.
A new church has been under construction since 2014. By 2018 the building was already roofed and had bells, and in March 2020 the parish was collecting money for stained glass and for the internal installations and plaster. The state of the work has to be checked with the parish.
