A Neo-Gothic church from 1892-1894 in Maczki, built mainly from railway workers’ contributions to a design by Artur Goebl.
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul the Apostles in Sosnowiec stands at Skwerowa 19, in the Maczki district. The Neo-Gothic church was built in 1892-1894 for the railway workers’ community.
The design was prepared by Artur Goebl. The originators of the project were the station master Adam Dziewulski and his assistant Jan Gawroński. The money came from contributions by railway workers and passengers and from a grant from the Warsaw-Vienna Railway Company. The church was blessed on 1 November 1894.
The interior is decorated with figural and ornamental stained glass. The church contains an organ from 1896 by Adolf Homan, a font, a painting of St Joseph, a crucifix, a patron’s pew and a perpetual lamp. The building is on the municipal register of monuments of Sosnowiec.
About 400 m from the church stands the railway bridge over the Biała Przemsza in Maczki, which fits well with the railway history of the parish.
