A Baroque parish church from 1769-1772 on Klimont hill in Lędziny, shown in the town’s coat of arms.
The Church of St Clement stands on Klimont hill in Lędziny. It is a Baroque parish church entered in the heritage register. It was built in 1769-1772 on the foundations of an earlier wooden church. Its silhouette appears in the coat of arms of Lędziny.
The construction was funded by Piotr Wehowski, long-time manager of the Lędziny manor farm, who was a Protestant, and by the parish priest Fr Piotr Bieroński. The church was consecrated on 9 September 1770 by Fr Krupski of Mysłowice. Wehowski and his family were buried in the crypt of the church.
The high altar dates from around 1803 and is the work of the master Scheffler of Kraków. The font, dated 1657, is older than the church itself. The historic furnishings also include a reliquary in the shape of a wooden hand and a chandelier from 1792, made at the glassworks in Wesoła.
It is about three kilometres to neighbouring Bieruń, where you will find the Church of St Bartholomew the Apostle and the Bieruń Town Museum. In Lędziny itself it is worth looking in at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
