Parish church in Steblów, Lubliniec, built in the 1980s and 1990s, since 2021 the diocesan shrine of St Edith Stein.
The Church of St Edith Stein stands in Lubliniec's Steblów district. It is a church of the 1980s, built from scratch for a new community, and since 2021 also the diocesan shrine of its patron saint.
The first step was taken in 1981, when permission was obtained to move the historic Church of St Anne. Three years later the parish acquired a wooden catechetical hut from the Oblate fathers, and in July 1985 construction of the church began. The dedication was given in 1989, when the Diocesan Curia received a rescript of the Holy See on the matter. Edith Stein was beatified in 1987, so the dedication was then very recent.
The parish under the patronage of St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) was erected on 1 July 1991. The church was consecrated on 8 December 1991. Exactly thirty years later, on 8 December 2021, Bishop Jan Kopiec raised it to the rank of diocesan shrine. The liturgical memorial of the patron saint falls on 9 August.
Beside the church stands a masonry bell tower from 1998, blessed on 13 December of that year. It has a plan of an elongated rectangle, three storeys and three arched openings on each. The highest part is covered by a mansard roof, the lower ones by gabled roofs. Four bells cast in 1998 at the Felczyński bell foundry in Taciszów hang in it: St Anne, John Paul 2, St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and Mary Joseph. The heaviest weighs about 850 kg.
The Edith Stein Museum in Lubliniec is linked to the story of the patron saint. A walk around the town centre can begin at Lubliniec Castle, and other Lubliniec churches include, for example, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
