Parish church in Gliwice's Łabędy, built in 1937-1939 to a design by Theodor Ehl and Otto Linder.
The Church of St George is a Roman Catholic parish church in the Łabędy estate of Gliwice, belonging to the Gliwice-Łabędy deanery of the Gliwice diocese. It was built just before the outbreak of the Second World War, in 1937-1939.
The church was designed by the architects Theodor Ehl and Otto Linder. The work was carried out by the firm Kaller i Stachnik under the direction of the government builder Wieczorek, and on behalf of the Church the construction was supervised by Father Emanuel Malejka, parish priest of the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The first work began on 3 November 1937. The money came from the former foundation of the parish priest Ignacy Ledwoch, from donations by parishioners, among them Count Nicolaus Ballestrem, and from a loan.
Cardinal Adolf Bertram consecrated the church on 24 June 1939. On the same day he established the parish under the patronage of St George.
The church was renovated in 1962, 1998-2000 and 2008-2011. During the last restoration the tower was raised and its top altered. A large round window with a stained-glass image of the church's patron saint was made in the chancel; the stained glass in the church was made by a workshop from Czechowice.
In 2016 a mosaic with figures of the archangels Michael and Gabriel and images of the Merciful Jesus and Our Lady of Perpetual Help was installed on the chancel arch wall. It was consecrated on 26 December 2016.
